Life in Nelson, New Zealand

Located at the top of the South Island, Nelson is known as one of New Zealand’s sunniest regions. It offers an exceptional lifestyle balance — vibrant enough to feel connected, yet small enough to feel grounded and community-oriented.

Within 15–60 minutes of the clinic, you can access:

  • The golden beaches of Abel Tasman National Park

  • World-class hiking and trail running

  • Mountain biking and road cycling routes

  • Kayaking, sailing, and open-water swimming

  • Skiing and alpine adventures in winter

Nelson has a thriving arts and food culture, excellent local schools, farmers markets, and a strong sense of community. Many of our patients are active families, professionals, and outdoor enthusiasts who value their health and lifestyle.

The pace of life here allows for meaningful work, time outdoors, and genuine connection. Commutes are short. The ocean is never far away. The mountains frame your drive home.

For practitioners relocating with partners or children, Nelson offers safety, space, and opportunity — without the intensity and cost of larger cities.

It’s a place where you can build a fulfilling osteopathic career and still finish your day with a swim, a trail run, or dinner overlooking the sea.

Overseas Applicants Welcome

We warmly welcome applications from osteopaths based overseas.

Osteopathy Nelson Health Collective has successfully supported practitioners relocating from the UK and Europe, and we understand that moving countries is both exciting and daunting. You won’t be navigating this process alone.

We are experienced in supporting you with:

  • Understanding the Osteopathic Council of New Zealand (OCNZ) registration requirements

  • Guidance through the OCNZ-managed Preceptorship pathway

  • Navigating visa processes — osteopaths are currently eligible for direct residency pathways

  • Understanding New Zealand practice culture and ACC processes

  • Cultural awareness, including respect for indigenous Māori health models and beliefs

  • Finding suitable housing and settling into Nelson

  • Integrating into our clinic team and local community

  • Building your patient list quickly through our strong referral networks and established reputation

Relocating internationally is a significant step. We provide mentorship, practical guidance, and genuine support so that you can focus on what matters most — delivering excellent osteopathic care.
